Mark Janson is a graduate of Parsons School of Design, in New York City. He began his career at Steven Holl Architects, where he worked closely with Steven to create many influential and award-winning projects. In keeping with JG’s firm philosophy, Mark has conceived and executed a broad range of projects since our founding in 1995, including residential, retail and commercial projects for influential fashion and business leaders across North America, Europe and Asia.
Hal Goldstein is a graduate of Cornell University School of Architecture. Prior to co-founding JG in 1995, Hal worked with several storied architecture and engineering firms in NYC, including I.M. Pei Associates, Steven Holl Architects, and Leslie E. Robertson Associates. Hal has designed many influential and award-winning projects across all disciplines, including the Aventura and Andaz Hotels, The New York Velodrome, Park Avenue Plaza, and an array of homes and apartments.
Steven Scuro is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Prior to joining Janson Goldstein as a partner in 2000, Steven was with Donna Karan International, where he was corporate vice president of retail development. With his extensive background in retail design and branding, Steven has created numerous projects for Holt Renfrew, Saks Fifth Avenue, Intermix, Calvin Klein, and many others.
Takaaki Kawabata joined Janson Goldstein LLP in 1998. As senior associate, he has been the team leader for the design and execution of Holt Renfrew flagships in Calgary and Vancouver, for Emporio Armani, Salvatore Ferragamo, and Donna Karan stores, as well as a number of private residential projects. Takaaki comes from a family of architects and builders in his native country of Japan. Takaaki graduated with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology in 1995. He has also been an adjunct professor of interior design at FIT since Fall 2000.
Matthew Jasion has been with JG since 2003. Matthew is currently the associate in charge of store design and execution for the important new Neiman Marcus flagship at Hudson Yards in New York City. He is also executing residential projects in New York City and Washington, Connecticut. Prior to joining JG, Matthew worked for the Aldo Rossi Studio di Architettura’s Manhattan office, and for Masahiro Ikeda in Tokyo. Matthew graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Rhode Island School of Design in 1998.
Camaal Benoit has been with JG since 2006. Camaal is currently executing the nationwide rollout of the new Westside & Ever After brands, as well as executing important residential projects in New York City and Beverly Hills, California. He was the associate in charge of interior planning and design for Holt Renfrew projects across Canada. In addition, Camaal serves as JG’s Chief Technology Officer. Camaal graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture from City College of New York in 2003.
Heidi Engstrom has been with JG since 2009. As Director of Special Projects, her portfolio ranges from leading our interior design group to managing the firm’s marketing strategy. Her major projects include the Neiman Marcus flagship at Hudson Yards, Holt Renfrew projects in Toronto and Vancouver, and multiple residences. Heidi managed the design of this website as well as our 2015 monograph, Work. Her upcoming projects include Home, JG’s new residential monograph, to be released in 2018. Heidi is also a professional opera singer and holds a degree in Voice from Mannes College of Music.
